Executive Director
Jonelle Dawkins (she/her)
Jonelle Dawkins is a fiber and mixed media artist from Decatur, GA. She studied Fashion Merchandising at UGA and discovered creative reuse during grad school at NCAT. She started as Scraplanta's Executive Director in November 2021 after working at Creative Reuse Center in North Carolina.

Symone Gaskin (she/her)
Symone Gaskin is an interdisciplinary artist, connector, and changemaker. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with a Culture and Social Change Concentration at Kennesaw State University. During her time there, she founded an art collective to empower and uplift local Black and Brown artists. She believes that art possesses a strong unifying power within our current divisive culture.

Barbara McGuire
The woman of steel. Barbara is a blessing to Scraplanta. She was one of ScrapTucker's first volunteers. She is an excellent baker, gardener, and grandmother to Trista and Zoey, of whom she loves to share pictures. She volunteered with us for two years before she became one of our Reuse Specialists.

Haley Hawkins (she/her)
Haley is a fiber artist, yoga teacher, and peer support counselor. She specializes in macrame and teaches a variety of fiber workshops along with managing the Scraplet location in Adair Park. Haley is an abolitionist crafter who believes in art as resistance and seeks to connect sustainable crafting with community resources. Her peer support practice helps others find power in resistance, collective care, and creativity, hh care support.

Connor Ashe (he/they)
Connor is an Independent Designer from Atlanta who specializes in upcycled jewelry and accesories. He searches through thrift stores, garage sales and flea markets for his materials. He would be happy to help you plan your next project and brainstorm how to make the most of your stash!

Barney is the absolute goodest boy! When you come to Scraplanta, please make sure to give him a head pat and a belly rub!

Board Chair
Harlan Eplan (he/him)
Harlan is a fourth-generation Decatur resident with several years of experience in both start-up and corporate environments. In his spare time, he can be found giving back to the community and creating beautiful memories with his daughter.

Treasurer
Marisa Levy (she/her)
Marisa is a New York native, with a neuroscience background and a passion for creative endeavors. She works as a customer success manager at a fintech startup by day and explores creative outlets at night. Previously, she has taken improv and sketch writing classes and is now focused on using her artistic energy to master her sewing machine. A huge nerd, she aspires to be able to create her own cosplays from scratch for DragonCon.

Angelica is a multi-disciplinary artist and the creative genius behind several amazing brands such as The Bizarre Bazaar, Gator Girl Cotton Candy, and Heavy Metal Honky Tonk. Her life's mission is to uplift and empower artists of all walks of life and looking fabulous while doing it!

Ottilie Murray (they/them)
Ottilie is an award-winning cosplayer with decades of Prop and Costume Experience. They have been a long-time Scraplanta Volunteer and the mastermind behind Scraplanta’s Patchwork Pinwheel Merchandise. Ottilie also enjoys building puppets and sharing their creative adventures.

delin is an operations analyst with a passion for caring for people and the planet. Often found hyping up fellow Earthlings at community gatherings across Atlanta "You got this!" Adelin enjoys sharing people and planet care.

Robert Brush (he/him)
Robert is a Data Analyst at the Atlanta Community Food Bank. In his free time, he enjoys live music, bike riding, and exploring new creative skills. Robert graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering. His passion for art and sustainability has drawn him to creative reuse.

Benita is a public health professional with a mission to build and support resilient communities. In her personal life, Benita can be found engaging in one of her many hobbies. She is a Bharatanatyam dancer, an avid reader, and loves scrapbooking/ junk journaling.

Meet our Founders.
Founder
Susan Reu (she/her)
Susan first learned of creative reuse programs from an article in the Sunday newspaper several years ago. After visiting The Scrap Exchange in Durham, NC, she was hooked. Two of her favorite creative reuse activities have been making business cards from cereal boxes and making quilt squares with donated fabric and trim. Collage is her favorite form of artistic expression. Susan studied journalism at the University of Georgia and technical writing at Southern Polytechnic State University. She currently works as a freelance writer and editor. She derives joy from passing donated art materials along to artists, teachers, parents, and children.

Sally Shelton
Sally Shelton partnered with Susan to start WonderRoot Creative Reuse. They hosted monthly art programs around the Atlanta area with pre-loved art supplies.

Jamie Rosengren
Jamie is a fiber artist, who works in the film industry and owns Fiber Parts. Jamie helped Scraplanta transition away from WonderRoot and become an independent program.

Roseanne Winn (she/her)
Roseanne is originally from NYC, where she studied fine arts. Roseanne spent several decades as a software developer before relocating to Atlanta. After hearing about creative reuse, she was delighted to work with Scraplanta. Roseanne volunteers at Scraplanta's community events and in our donation processing area.

Melissa Wood
Melissa worked with the charter members to host Scraplanta's first pop-up shops with Corner Cup Coffee and Soulshine's Decatur Campus.

Ridwell
Ridwell is an environmental social enterprise that offers a door-to-door subscription service for hard to recycle materials. Ridwell's expansion to Atlanta involves partnerships with local non-profits, such as Scraplanta to help community members keep art and craft supplies out of the landfill. StorageWorld
StorageWorld has generously donated a storage unit that has housed Scraplanta's donations for several years.
EcoRise x Southwest Airlines
Scraplanta partnered with EcoRise and SouthWest Airlines to provide decommissioned airplane seats to Metro Atlanta teachers. Scraplanta also hosted a workshop to show teachers how to use Leatherworking tools.


RootLocal
Scraplanta is proud to be a part of RootLocal's Pollinator Network Map which includes community networks and organizations who are committed to a more sustainable and equitable Atlanta.
The Bakery
In 2022, Scraplanta hosted the Revival Art Show at The Bakery's Gallery in South Downtown. The Revival Art show featured dozens of creative reuse artists from Atlanta and New York.
PaintLove
PaintLove and Scraplanta have worked together for several years through the exchange of materials and co-hosting events.



CHaRM
Scraplanta works with CHaRM to provide art activities at CHaRM's Kids Earth Day events.
Charcoal Blue
Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Charcoal Blue, we were able to purchase new shelves and a digital scale to process donations and better organize our retail store.
Lifecycle Building Center
Lifecycle Building Center generously donated flooring at furniture to stock Scraplanta's Tucker location through their MATCH program.

The Atlanta Green Theatre Alliance provides a free tool and art supply shed to the Greater Atlanta Community. They are located the South River Arts Studio.
